Fresh install, almost working 10 Years, 8 Months ago
I've used Highslide successfully in the past the old fashioned way, but I'm not able to get it to work within Joomla and I've gone over the steps multiple times.

My behavior is that in my Joomla article, I get all the proper behavior on mouseover -- I see borders, I see the mouseover cursor. But when I click, it doesn't actually expand. Instead it just displays the full image in a new page.

You can check it out at www.harvestcircuit.com (I created a test gallery image in the bottom right corner of the front page).

What I did (in order):
1. Initially I manually installed the highslide files into home/joomla_1.5.21/plugins from highslide.com. Didn't do any manual configuration.
2. Then I followed all the Joomla steps (installing JCE, config component 2.0.10, highslide plugin 2.0.7, and the two JCE expanders). All installed without error.
3. Published config, chose JCE as editor.
4. I also picked some settings in general, popup, overlay, and settings by choosing what I liked so I would also see valid previews.
5. This is when I realized it wasn't working... and not having any cursors/borders. I discovered I hadn't published the plugin from the plugin manager. Now I get the cursors/borders, but expanding doesn't work (just opens full-sized image in same page).
6. Did not modify css, html, script, nor language. css seems to have some default stuff in it and script/html are blank.
7. I also deleted the files in step 1 and made no difference.
8. Added the custom overlay HTML (but with or without, no difference).
9. Same behavior in Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

Hi,

The highslide link in your article looks like this:
Code:

<a class="highslide" href="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2.jpg">
<img alt="Thumbnail image" src="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2_thumb.jpg" /></a>

The anchor does not have an onclick attribute to invoke highslide, like this:
Code:

<a onclick="return hs.expand(this)" class="highslide" href="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2.jpg">
<img alt="Thumbnail image" src="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2_thumb.jpg" /></a>

If you don't want to include an onclick attribute you can use unobtrusive mode where you provide a rel="highslide" attribute rather than the class="highslide" attribute, like this:
Code:

<a rel="highslide" href="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2.jpg">
<img alt="Thumbnail image" src="/joomla/images/stories/gameplay2_thumb.jpg" /></a>

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your speedy response! How would I make the necessary changes from a high level -- in the control panel config?

I just want to be able to use the JCE editor to create new thumbnails at will and have the behavior work without any special setup.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,I just want to be able to use the JCE editor to create new thumbnails at will and have the behavior work without any special setup.You can use the JCE HsExpander/HsHtmlExpander plugins to add your links. Those plugins do all the highslide specific html for you.

I've been using the JCE Expander while inline editing the front page from Joomla, rather than in the administrator section.

I don't know why it's generating the wrong code nor how to fix it. I'm using the Expander and just specifying the image and thumbnail, with the assumption the rest of the settings are going to get picked up from the configuration settings.

Are any of my settings wrong or missing? I really have no clue what to do to resolve this

Hi,

Ahh. Joomla's HTML filter is probably stripping the onclick attributes from the links. Take a look at the link below for more information on this:

docs.joomla.org/Why_does_some_HTML_get_r..._in_version_1.5.8%3F
